Photo of the day: Varenna

Verona, here we come.

As of now, we'll be based in Verona! This is great news for a multitude of reasons:

1. I already read up on Verona A TON. Glad to know I can put this to some use.
2. It's incredibly close to Venice!
3. It's only 2 hours from Milan!
4. Lake Garda is about 20 minutes away - Italy's biggest lake.
5. Lake Como is only a couple hours away! And I hear Varenna (a town on the lake) is incredible.
6. We are close to the Alps!
7. I can't really think of any other concrete reasons, but I'm stoked!

Although we'll be in Verona for all of prep and the first couple weeks of shooting, the best part is that we'll slowly be making our way down towards the Florence area and Siena through the last 5 or so weeks of filming. Free travel!

And I should point out one thing that Erin thought was great: Siena is apparently a walled-city. It'll be tough to shoot within those walls, because I don't think cars are allowed inside (except taxis, police, some bus lines) - to preserve the ancient buildings and roads and such. At least that's what Wikitravel tells me. And they're never wrong.

Tentative new trip planned: ROME!!

Add another to the list... it's only TBD but I'm excited. ROME with Erin, Alicia and maybe even Billy (!!) on June 6th and 7th!

If only the flights weren't almost $600 from Verona. How come it's $400 on Alitalia to fly from Verona to Rome to Athens but $600 to just fly to Rome?! Why can't I just buy the Athens ticket and just NOT GO ALL THE WAY. Hmmm...

VENICE!!

So it looks like, through some amazing at of God, that not only will I get to visit Venice during the last weekend in May, but ALICIA AND ERIN WILL BE THERE WITH ME!!

I cannot express how excited I am to not only see them, but to be reunited in Italy of all places!

The timing worked out so incredibly. Alicia is going back to the States at the end of June, and her job in Paris ends at the end of May. She was already planning a trip around Italy in June and we were able to get Erin on board! Thanks to her awesome Mom and boss, as well.

I hope the trip works out timing-wise, because we'll definitely be busy over there getting ready for the film. Reading through the script again, I am reminded of how many locations we have! It's intimidating. But fortunate in the way of not being "stuck" filming in one place - we'll definitely get to see a ton, it seems.

I also hope that Erin and Alicia's itinerary works out so I can meet them wherever they'll be the first weekend in June. I am secretly hoping it's Rome! ;)

I'm also trying to figure out other weekend trips I may be able to squeeze in. My first priority is Greece (probably Athens since it's easiest to get to) and the other is the beaches in the south of France. It would also be great to take a train to Austria or Switzerland, but I think two outside trips plus smaller trips within Italy and to the beach are maybe all I'll have the time and energy for. We'll see!

In other semi-related news, I was able to find a sublease for May! The good news just keeps on rolling in...

Countdown: Italy in 3 weeks!

Our Sophia

All you ever wanted to know about Letters to Juliet...

Well, not everything, because I don't know it yet. But here is what I do know:

Gary and I (and lots of other people I don't know yet) are going to Italy to make LETTERS TO JULIET! We're either going to shoot in Verona or near Florence or both. Either way, we'll be there from May 11th through end of August, probably around the 22nd. 7 weeks of that is shooting, and the other (first) 7 weeks are for prep. We come back to NY for one week of shooting at the end of August.

It looks like 90% of our crew will be local hires - so my hope is that one of the Italians will feel bad for me and teach me to speak it better than I can. I still don't know how to say "I only know a little Italian," but I should probably learn.

We've got Amanda Seyfried attached in the lead role, and are looking at Brits for the lead male (Charlie) and lead "older lady" (Claire). A Helen Mirren-type.

That's the gist of what I know now. Once I figure out how to write a logline for this thing, I will. At this point it's hard to explain what the film is about without talking for 5-10 minutes.

xoxo
